Harold Berghuis New Hot Trio

A lovely and relaxed-swinging trio that sometimes reminds of Django Reinhardt, sometimes reminds of Klezmer or Balkan-music, but most of all, has a unique identity of its own. Their music has a sense of melancholy that you seldom hear. First class!

Doctor Jazz Magazine

I started this trio in 2005 with the idea of playing my own compositions. I like writing, and I figured it would be nice to have my own group to play all these new tunes. I’d say the music of my trio really is Hot Club de France-style, but slightly more modern than you’ll usually hear.

The German music magazine Hot Club News wrote about our CD: ‘Perhaps one day, some of these songs will turn out to be new Gypsy Jazz classics’. That would be very nice. But we really don’t only play new music. When we’re in a Django-mood, we may just as well play the existing Gipsy Jazz-classics.

I like the open sound of a Gypsy Jazz trio. It gives you more possibilities for delicate soloing and makes you focus more on the composition itself. Therefore, we mainly aim for small stages with an interested audience. But in fact, the opposite is true as well: Some people seem to appreciate our music very much as a background for their conversations…
